Vijay's Velayudham Movie Review
The other big release of Diwali race Velayudham released today with high expectations. The recent hit of Vijay's Kavalan gave superb strength to fans and even common audience were looking forward for this super hero flick. Velayudham is supposed to be a safe bet considering the fact that, it involves, The Remake expert director Raja in association with Remake Specialist Vijay and with a remake script of Telugu movie Azad. Lets see what actually happened..

Entered the theater...Vijay fans totally excited before the start of show :)
Nonstop bursting of 1000 walas in the theater premises :)

Movie starts off in a militant camp in Pakistan.
Now in Chennai...Bomb blasts everywhere and time for titles.
Titles continue...Genelia introduced very simply...
Genelia and team on a mission...face a problem...start of commercial elements...Defying logic :)
Velayudham character "created" by Genelia...Vijay yet to make an entrance.
Hero makes an entrance to thunderous response...Trying to generate some comedy...his cousin hansika and sister saranya introduced.
Boring comedy but good response from front benches.
Vel's flashback narration time.
Village comedy episodes...Mixed response...
Running race scenes are funny :)
Punch dialogues by the hero...thunderous response from his fans...An experience of a life time :)
Song time...Sonna puriyadu song...
Extraordinary steps by Illayatalapathy in the songs...Fans enjoying to the core...
Some brother - sister sentiment scenes...Moving along the lines of Azaad and Thirupachhi.
Flashback over...Hansika overacts like there is no tomorrow...Train scenes are funny.

After a while we have Genelia on screen...The character created by her is in limelight...
Santhanam comedy yet to hit its peak...pretty plain as of now...Good to see telugu baddie Ajay :)

1 hour into the movie...Movie being dealt with some comedy scenes.
Now time for the peak scenes of first half...Vijay shown in Velayudham getup for the first time...riding a horse...followed by a typical Vijay fight :)
Now a song full of graphics...Vayam seidayo song...Vijay shown in Ra.one getup
Simple steps and OK kind of time pass song :)
Small steps and lots of CG work in the song...misplaced
Shopping complex scenes...trying to generate some comedy...hmmm
Bomb blast averted...similar to what happened in Azaad.
Genelia finally gets to see the character she created in person :)
Enter the main villain...Abhimanyu Singh.
Movie graph very similar to Azaad...
End of first half...few comedy scenes and some commercial elements...Nothing great so far...Nothing bad at the same time...Good songs and OK fights make sure that Vijay fans are not a disappointed lot.
Second half starts off with some key scenes which make Vijay realize the importance of Velayudham character.
Velayudham makes an appearance in his funny looking costume and a fight follows dutifully :)
Velayudham being praised by one and all for helping them out :)
More and more problems confront velayudham as the movies hits top commercial gear.
Another fight to save girls from prostitution mafia.Good fight welcomed by fans with great response.
Lead scene for a song followed by a slow song...Is it absolutely necessary to have a song here ??

Terrific execution of trapping scene...Complete episode is good...Hero wants to find out where the bombs are planted.

Most silly and comic fight sequence of the movie...Vijay back to his elemental comic best.

Muslim dialogue between sayaji shinde and Villain not impressive.
Most important scene of the movie...Marriage scene going on.

Twist...time for some action sequences.
Stadium scene...twist twist...fight and good response in the theater.
Velayudham introduced to the public...but not the real one.
Fight is going on and on and on...Vijay goes bare body... the response was awesome.
Powerful dialogues explaining who and what velayudham is.
Over...It has a surprise for vijay fans at the end.A commercial entertainer.Fans may say it is super but it is one time watchble average fare.

Finally the day has come, in other words, Diwali has come one day before in the form of 7aam Arivu release in Chennai. The combination of Surya and Murugados has got lot of expectations due to their previous block buster Gajini and also the hype created by the production house and media. As of now poor crowds because of rain.All the shows are reportedly full but the crowd is yet to trickle in.Show time in 15mins.
For all the sentiment freaks out there...I watched ROBO and MANKATHA premier shows in the same theater...Lets hope records are rewritten :)

Movie starts off in China with introductory scenes about martial arts set in 16th century...Good graphics work.
Young Bodhidharman (suriya) entrance...terrific response in the theater and good BGM.
Suriya looks macho in the title sequence.
Bodhidharman story thread continues show problems in a chinese village.
Chinese song starts off after Bodhidharman cures a mysterious disease.
Another problem in the village and a fight to solve it.
Very poor quality graphics in the fight make people laugh.Very loud BGM.
Villains killing their own people...Reason being Drushti Vaseekaranam :)
End of Bodhidharman episode.Movie moves into present times.
Introduction of villain and operation red.Villain assigned with an important task and a show reel of villain's talents :)
Now back to India but 93 days ago.A movie full of time lines :)
Ringa Ringa Song.
Good picturization of the song but the situation of the song is very silly.Circus Surya introduced.
So far the movie is a bit confusing as it still needs to enter the main story line...All characters being introduced.
Heroine introduced in a very simple manner.
Aravinda is the name of Suriya in his circus artist character.
Hero falls in love with the heroine in first look...Director trying to evoke some comedy...So far a futile effort at that :(
Hero trying to impress the heroine...Movie going on at a so so pace.
Hero gives a lift to the heroine on an elephant...hmmmm...hero trying nonstop to evoke some comedy.
Munnaji song...Beach song...Shruthi Hassan looks gorgeous in this song.
About 15-20 people walked out...signs of impatience ??
btw...we are now down from 93 days to 63 days in the flashback :) Signs of movie entering the main storyline.
Heroine trying to utilize hero for a key task keeping the hero in dark about the same.
Shruthi Hassan is the dumbest actor i have ever come across...absolutely stone faced :(
A twist in the tale :)
Sad song..yamma yamma song...hero cheated by heroine...Movie falling flat...
Countless walkouts for this song...Good song wasted...
So far the movies gives an impression that something is there in store but no clue about when all that will be revealed :(
Day 85...now heroine starts chasing the hero...hmmmmm
Hero dragged to a museum by the heroine to tell him about his family heritage...
Heroine explaining an absurd theory about how hero can be strengthened by colluding the DNA of bodhidharman with the hero's...Enter the villain...hmmmmm
Operation Red starts...Interval...Surya performance is the only saving grace so far...Heroine is absolutely emotionless...Zero entertainment...Only a strong second half can save this film.
Power cut facilitates a lengthy interval for us to recuperate and prepare ourselves for the second half :)
Some scenes praising tamil language muster good response from the crowds :)
Though he is a martial arts expert,villain uses Drushti Vaseekaran against his opponents who start killing themselves...truly funny stuff though comedy is not intended here :)
Twist...Villain being helped by people close to the heroine...Hero and heroine trying to chase the mystery behind a chinese villain following them...
A boring scene followed by yelamma song...movie moving at the same pace as the first half.
Nothing to rave about in this song...People generously treating it as a second interval...
Finally some interesting scenes...Operation Red being explained in detail.
Whole concept explained in detail with interesting scenes but overall it seems a bit silly to me personally...
Now it is the turn of Shruthi hassan to hog the limelight...
Villain searching for the hero and heroine in a separate track...nothing short of a buffoon...
Story demands the hero to underplay right now and he is underplaying dutifully :)
Great scene...absolutely stunning...spell bound...Oh God....villain tries to control the hero seeing him directly into his eyes and the hero retaliates with his eyes...Oh God
Villain calls his boss and asks him why he was not able to control the hero...very very amateurish picturization...hmmmmm
One silly scene...followed by another silly scene...making the previous look like a masterpiece...
This is a test of patience...some very very very silly scenes...
Hilarious response to a ferocious fight :)
You cant help but appreciate the director for dishing out this costly fight turned comedy sequence :)
